Bandwidth degradation with Netgear Router & Uniden VOIP Phone/Router

I have a network configuration where my cable modem is connected to the
WAN port of a Packet8 Uniden UIP1868P (latest firmware). The LAN port
is connected to a Netgear MR814 router (also latest firmware). When the
router is connected directly to the modem (MODEM->ROUTER->PC), I get
6.0MB+ of downstream bandwidth. However, when I go back to my original
configuration of MODEM->UNIDEN->ROUTER->PC, I get between 1.5MB &
2.0MB. Now, when I am setup MODEM->UNIDEN->PC, I get 6.0MB+ as well.
The problem is when I have the Uniden & Router together. This seems
like a significant degradation of performance!

I've contacted both Netgear and Uniden tech support to no avail. Are
there any known issues with Netgear modems? Can anyone guess at what
the problem may be? Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Recap:
MODEM->PC -> 6.0MB+
MODEM->UNIDEN->PC: 6.0MB+
MODEM->ROUTER->PC 6.0MB+
MODEM->UNIDEN->ROUTER->PC 1.5-2.0MB

NImit,

Thank you for your response. I guess I should've mentioned that the
Uniden phone is a router itself, and it's supposed to be the closest
router to the modem so that it can prioritize VOIP packets, which is
fine with me. But I'll try putting a switch in there and I'll post my
findings.
