Hi Kelly,
I did run your original reg file back when I first tried
changing this. Looking back at my scripts folder I can
see that I decided to delete these two lines on Group
Ploicy Objects, I assumed that these were for XP Pro. I
am running XP Home:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Group Policy
Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi o
n\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Group Policy
Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi o
n\Policies\Explorer]
"**del.NoSaveSettings"=" "
I left in the line
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000
Have I got this wrong and do I need to put those two
lines back in? (A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!)
I did get it to work in the end. In Windows Explorer
under tools > folder options > view I pressed the reset
all folders button. All folders then took on the tiles
view, but when I changed my pictures to thumbnails it now
stayed that way.
I didn't capture what registry settings this option in
explorer did, but it certainly kicked something into
life. I just have to change all those tile views to
detailed view, but I have plenty of bag keys now to do
this.
Thanks
David

Nope, it should stick. Not sure what else you have going on. This _may_
help: Although, if you ran my edit, it is included. Good luck!
Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Hi Kelly,
I have had some success. The windows folder is back to
normal now, thanks, it was very odd seeing artist name
etc in the folder view. However, I can not get the
thumbnail view to stick on folders containing my
pictures. I just tried again deleting the bags keys,
relogging on and opened one folder, set it to thumbnail
view, closed windows explorer, reopened explorer and it
was back to detailed view.
Is there some other settings overriding the customization
view?
Thanks
David

Most welcome, David. No, Raymond has not made the update/change as of yet
for TweakUI and resetting all folders should correct your current issue.
That and/or: Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

Hi Kelly
I think we may have discussed the BagMRU setting on these
boards earlier when Microsoft released TweakUI to change
this but they had a bug which included a space (Bag MRU
Size) if I remember correctly. Did MS ever release an
updated TweakUI?
The registry settings look OK.
BagMRU Size REG_DWORD 0x000007d0 (2000)
under both
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
&
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
I'll have ago at deleting the two keys you mention, it
will take me a while to reach 400 folder customizations
again to test the 401st.
I don't know if this is related, but the c:\windows\
directory has the musical note background, I am not sure
how this can be as there is no customize tab on this
folder. Will deleting the two bags key reset this as well?
Thanks
David

Hi David,
Are you using the proper values? Examples:
4000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00000fa0
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00000fa0
8000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam] a
a
m
\
Bags
Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number
is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this
to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.
Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:
Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard
disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be
viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

I have read that changing the [BagMRU Size] in the XP
registry should increase the number of folders that XP
remembers the customization of.
I have set [BagMRU Size] to 2000 in both
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
and
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
But this does not seem to work, XP home ed still
forgets
folder settings. Looking in the registry under
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\
Bags] I see 400 keys, I guess for the default of 400
for
BagMRU.
Any ideas why XP Home ed SP1 is ignoring the BagMRU
setting of 2000?
Thanks
David
