sometimes when i delete the addresses in DHCP I would
get "bad_address" under the name column. could anyone
explain why i get this sometimes?

And if you have an IP conflict, it will display as a Bad Address in DHCP.

Hello All,

Conflict detection is done by the DHCP server by pinging an IP address
before offering that ip to a requesting client. By default this is not
enabled. To enable it:

Right click on the server in the DHCP management and select properties.
Go to the Advanced tab and add a value to the Conflict detection attempts
(0 to disable)

This value will determine the number of times an attempt will be made to
ping the address being offered. If no response is given then the address is
offered to the client. If a reply is given then the server attaches a
BAD_ADDRESS value to that IP address in the scope. This method can be used
as a troubleshooting method to help if you suspect duplicate IP addresses
in use on your network.

Hi,

I apologize about unearthing an old post.

I have the same issue with a 2003 SP1 server.

many of my DHCP reservations are changed to "bad_address", but the most annoying point is that in the reservation, the field "Mac address" is changed to a 8 digit hexa figure...

I've suppressed the DHCP ping test thanks to this article, but even if it works (I'm still anxiously staring at my dhcp screen, hitting eagerly the refresh button), it will not explain what changes the mac adress.

any idea?

PS : sorry for my english :x
