oh Vista your only a beta, but already I love you so...
and like anything you love, when it miss-behaves or generally is a PITA it
hurts you so!

Today I decided I was going to attempt to troubleshoot a problem I was
having with my recorder not being able to switch between different media...
see my post this morning in M.P.W.vista.hardware_devices if you are
interested. The reboots necessary for this, caused me a lot of headaches!

First problem, I failed over my DHCP server yesterday... I'm in the process
of switching from a broadcast network to a routed network. For this to
happen I need get all my users off my WS2003 DHCP server for
reconfiguration. Now the failover DHCP server hands out address in a
different IP range of same subnet as my old WS2003 DHCP did... But boy did
vista have issues with this. It was getting a client IP fine, but I had to
fuddle around in the network center for a while to convince it that I was
indeed connected to the same network. I think what actually fixed it was
physically unplugging the network cord on the switches end and plugging it
back in. This definitely isn't expected behavior, and is going to cause
alot of sysadmins headaches if it is not properly fixed before release. I
have this on my to-do list for more testing... and if I can recreate this
problem this is definitely a bug report!

Now vista is NOT detecting my ASUS MyPal 636 when it is connected via the
USB cable. I'm going away for a long weekend and wanted to fill a few SD
cards with music for the drive. I've attempted to disconnect the USB pc
side, and I get the hardware dadings, but the Sync Center still tells me
that both my Windows Mobile-based device and my SD Card are disconnected.
I've attempted to reset the device, etc. etc. (no biggy laptop has an SD
slot, I'll just sync my music from there).

So for the first time since I've installed the public beta, Vista is really
letting me down... The only good news from the day is now I appear to be
able to burn a single show at a time from MCE to a DVD (still encoding at
25%, so maybe anyway, it's the furthest Windows encoder has gotten in Vista
to date)... and that is one of the things that was broke before I started
this whole day.

Hope everyone on these lists has a great weekend!

Oh I just figure this out, when I was fuddling around with my network
previously I disabled 'Local Area Connection 6' no understanding that this
was my connection to my PPC, and failed to re-enable it. I re-enable this
connection and babind my PPC started syncing... so maybe my day will end on
a good note after all.

Go figure 'Local Area Connection 6', heh.
