I have a bad VGA port on my Gateway laptop model M500. Is this something that
I can repair/replace myself or do I have to have a trained technician do it??

Thanks

No it's not something you can replace.
You may want to look into a USB to VGA adaptor

Philo, can i connect an external LCD monitor to my laptop using this USB to
VGA adaptor??

Thanks

I've never used one...but
All you have to do is go to google and type in USB to VGA adaptor
and you can look at the specs yourself.

From the brief look it looks like they require USB2

How have you confirmed that the port is buggered? That is many laptops
have a feature where the port is switched on and off with the fn key +
some function key.

Y es I tried both holding down the Fn key and then pressing f3, tried again
by holding down the fn key and then pressing f4. nothing happened in either
case.
