I just installed a new motherboard (ASUS A7N8X and
processor AMD XP 2600+) on my system. All other hardware
was the same on it. Now when it starts up it XP goes to a
blue screen of death and gives an error message saying
there is a virus or the drives are faulty....they are the
same drives as before. Any advice?

Thanks

Nick;
After a motherboard replacement, a Repair Installation is normally
required to properly detect the new hardware.
Also check and reseat all cards and cables.

Repair Installation:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
Windows Updates will need to be reinstalled.
Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.
Install Service Pack first and by itself.
Then install ALL Critical Updates no more than 4 at a time,
Disconnect the network/modem cable before starting repair and do NOT
reconnect the cable until repair is completed and firewall is
installed/enabled.

Frank;
Why? You ask!
Because many (not all) report problems when attempting to install
several updates at a time.

You should also at least read what they are.
You severely handicap yourself if you have issues and do not know what
or when you did tom cause them.

Regardless of how reliable/automated an application is, you should
monitor and control it to some degree.

WHY? I don't even read to see what the updates are, I
just click review and install and go on my merry way. I
think that 1 or 2 may have to be installed by themselves
but WUD will notify.

Frank;
The reality is people come to these newsgroups with problems.
Your example does not reflect a problem while my example gives a
method of reducing problems where there often is a history of
problems.
In an ideal world your way will work.
The ideal world does not apply to most who come here with problems.
Your example also refers to a Clean Install, that does not apply in
this and many other cases.

I don't care to argue the point with you, because I do this on a daily
basis.
If one of these updates cause problems, it is very seldom if ever the
update
that is causing the problem. As a matter of fact I do these updates
from
a CDROM to clean installs of XP ___after writing 00's to the disk__.
