My son downloaded Bittorrent. We subsequently deleted
that file (by put it in the recycling bin). Later I tried
to place a shortcut to my CD drive on my desktop, but the
shortcut can't seem to find the drive and points to
Bittorrent as the closest match. How can I fix this?

Try editing the shortcut target,

Right click on shortcut, select properties.

Change the target path to

D:\

or whatever.

Thanks --- but D:\ was and is the target specified. And
when I try to go into open the "general" tab on the
shortcut to see what's going on, I get an error
message: "The name specified in the target box 'D:\' is
not valid." It's got me stumped.

Hey Mathew,

Somethings got screwed up.

Go into device manager and uninstall the CD drive and reboot.
It will get reinstalled automatically when the system comes back up and
recreated its registry entries.
