I assume you ran a diagnostic from the drive manufacturer which found
problems but couldn't repair them. Contact tech support there and
discuss the diagnostic's results.
Drives have a long warranty period, and yours may be replaced free.
You'll need to give them the drive's serial # & other info from labels
on the drive, so pull the drive before that phone call.
If they offer you a free replacement, they'll be willing to ship you a
replacement drive first, so you can mount that new drive as master and
the broken one as slave, install W2k on the new drive, and copy as much
off the old drive as possible. Typically they'll ask you for a credit
card number, but won't charge anything to it as long as you get the
broken drive to them within 30 days or so. I've done this several times
with Maxtor, Western Digital, etc.
