Bad RAM no video output

I don't know if this is the right group
to post this but I'm curious, why would
bad RAM cause no video output?

I figured the video card was used
via DMA and so memory on
the motherboard would be irrelevant.
Instead, the memory on the motherboard
affects the video output. Is this because
DMA is not used during a POST?

RAM is set up, before the video card gets set up.
If the RAM is bad, then the POST process stops
and you get some beeps. So the video card doesn't
get programmed and the screen remains black.
