Bad mirrored drive

Hello!

I have an IBM Netfinity 5600 running Win2000 Server with two drives mirrored
through the OS (I know, but I didn't set it up!). I noticed the primary
drive was not fully seated, and I think it may be running on the mirrored
drive. If I push in the primary drive and tell it to regenerate, is 2000
smart enough to regenerate from the mirrored to the primary drive, or will
it start using the primary's data and overwrite the mirror, which may
contain the most current data?

Thank you for helping!

If you can see the drive in Disk Management, it for sure will have full
contact, and in that case nothing should happen.

If the disk is missing in Disk Management, it is flagged as failed, and
your system is running from your second drive. Re-seating the drive and
then regenerating will not overwrite the up-to-date drive with data from
your out-of-date drive.

Thank you!

Along the same lines, if a dynamic disk that is not part of an array (single
dynamic disk) is marked as "Healthy (with errors)", what happens to the data
if I "reactivate" the disk? I assume nothing happens to the data, but we all
know what happens when one assumes.

Thanks again for your help! The rebuild went fine with no data loss when I
reseated the drive.

I assume that you mean a disk status of "Online (Errors)". This happens if
I/O-errors has occurred. Checking the event logs might reveal what disk
operation failed, and it might be possible to track defective files. A
chkdsk would be suggested.

Reactivating the disk does not in any way change data on the disk. It just
return status to "Online", and any volume status to "Healthy".
