I have recently downloaded a number of files from
a p2p programme. These files are in various formats
The files have downloaded successfully but will not
play in windows media player. The files are both music
mp3 etc and vidio including avi.

When I try to open them an err9r message comes up BAD FILE
NAME. If the name was bad howis it possibel to
download. Worse still others are uploading from my
list.
Is there any software to identify these problems an
advise remedial action or better still will identify
and fix the problems?
If not why does somebody not make one.

Beter still is there not a universal code or a
programme which will match the input and output codes.
These media files take up such a lot of disc space
and I really only want to listen or look once then
delete. This allows me to see or hear samples
before I by. At the moment I have downloaded stuff
which is useles to me and is taking up valuable space.
I hope somebody can give me some adice. By the way I am
an invalid pensioner and this is one of the few
oleasures available to me.

Best wishes Guy

Dont download anything off any P2P network and expect them
to play right. P2P networks are fully of fake files and
virus'. most of the time your u get a bad file message
it's b/c it's a virus and not a video.

Now to the codec's, download GSpot and open up each video
clip in it, itt will tell you want codec you need. There
are codec packs that you can download, but dont, they
cause more problems while trying to watch videos.

Often people will rename a file from asf or avi to mpeg
to allow th p2p file sharing software to recognize it as
a video file.
