Bad IP address?

I've been attempting to connect to the internet via DSL(Verizon). I
troubleshooted for a week before I called Verizon, because I didn't want to
be one of those cases in which it was an obvious fix.(Like I forgot to flip a
switch):) I know it may sound silly, but I wanted to try to fix it myself.
Well, long story short, I lost the fight for internet connection and called
Verizon for help. They said it was a bad IP address and suggested I call
Hewlitt Packard for assistance. They also said it could be a bad NIC and it
would be a good idea to replace it(I did). HP wouldn't help because my
computer is obsolete according to their standards.(I bought it in '01.) I've
done the inconfig & ping commands, as well as the Network Wizard. All systems
are a go as far as viruses(I think) & memory. It just can't find a network
connection and I'm so frustrated!! The IP address starts with 169. What can I
do? If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!-

Hi astoner77,
You are asking alot for someone to answer by correspondence. If no-one is
willing to help you in this newsgroup (because it realy has nothing to do
with IE) you may like to start from the beginning again (delete all your
Internet Connections in the Internet Connections control panel) and then
call the Verizon help desk and have them walk you through the networking
wizard to create a new connection to them.
Regards.

Well try going to www.craigslist.org If you want you can sign up for an
account then go into the computer chat forum and ask away. I have used this
and people respond fairly quickly, of course some are mean but usually
someone comes up with a solution. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you! I will try it>Amy
