My CD and CDRW are both missing from the device driver
and My Computer. I wrote before and am having trouble
resolving. It came up that in October My CD had Bad
blocks. What does that mean and how do I fix. I went
into the registry (didn't change anything). One site said
to remove the Upper and the Lower Filter Values and then
restart. Will that fix it? Not sure what they are.
There are some numbers 0000, 0001, 0002 after the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM|CONTROLSET001\ (etc) where I
was supposed to look. Are those the filter values? Can
anyone help me?

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website

Bad blocks on your cd typically mean that the cd media you are trying to
read has issues (the underlying error correction on the cd itself might be
able to get around this, but in general, it means you should look into
putting that cd's data onto a newer, more reliable disc)
