The event viewer records many instances of error 7 - a
bad block on my laptops's hard disk. I have reformatted
and defragges several time, but my system still has
random problems. Does this mean I have to get a new hard
disk, or is there another fix?

Thanks,

A.

Once a block is bad, it's bad forever. Normally the O/S will not write to
this block, once it has been marked as such. Are you certain that you don't
have subsequent blocks failing also? May be time to look into a new hard
drive.

Hi Crusty -

All of the error messages appear to be the same, i.e. The
Device\Harddisk\0\D has a bad block. Each time I've
reformatted more functionality has returned to the
system. Is there any hope - or shall I just invest in a
new (and reliable) drive?

Get a new HDD, they are cheap (inexpensive) and it sure beats formatting and reinstalling everything.
