I would like to remove BackWeb from my XP, but first want
to check that nothing bad will happen if I do.

Thanks.

If you don't know what it is, Why do you want to remove it???? Kinda like
wanting to remove the ECM from your car without knowing what it does.
what a stupid response to a rational question. It really doesn't matter
why they want it removed.

backWeb - backWeb.exe - Process Information

Process File: backWeb or backWeb.exe
Process Name: Backweb Adware
Description: Backweb is an Adware by Backweb Technologies
Common Errors: N/A
System Process: No
Related Link: Spyware Detection and Removal

Assuming this is the BackWeb that you are referring to -- it's not part
of Windows so there shouldn't be a problem with removing it -- just use
add/remove programs in your control panel. You might want to be careful
about removing shared DLL files, but the program itself shouldn't cause
any harm by being removed.

Removing it would disable whatever spyware protection it may offer.

It does if he is trying to remove a system file. Which File protections
is designed to prevent.
