Mark,
Backup utilities is not installed from the CD-ROM by
default. I'm not sure which of the two CD-ROMS's it is on,
but it is installed seperatly .

The Backup utility is not included in the default installation of Windows XP
Home Edition. The Backup icon is not present on the Start menu in Windows XP
Home Edition, nor is Backup listed in Add Remove Programs for Windows XP
Home edition.

This article describes how to install Backup, which is included on the
CD-ROM in the Valueadd folder. To use Backup, you have to install it
manually.

For OEMs (dont have XP CD), download ntbackup from:

This isn't a backup tool, it's a defrag tool from a company I
refuse to name, known for it's prevasive marketing.

Here's a Safe Computing Tip; Don't download an executable from a
company you are unfamiliar with, based on the say-so of someone on
Usenet without doing a little research first.

I had to hack this url to "www.execsoft.com" to get to the company's
web page and make sure they hadn't added a backup utility to their
one and only product.

Oh, yes. My undertanding is that the company that wrote MS ntbackup
was eithe Seagate or Veritas and they may have sold off any interest
in retail backup software.

Sorry, I'm senile. I had just done a defrag and automatically
translated backup to defrag when I read the post.
Abject apologies.

I cannot find the NTBackup util on my XP Pro disk. Is it not on the Pro
disk?

NT Backup is a component in Windows XP Pro. Check the start menu for its
shortcut: Start | (All) Programs | Accessories> System Tools> Backup

If not found, you can install by using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
| Add/Remove Windows Components.
