I'm reading that you cannot backup files directly to cd's, however, I'm
having a tough time FINDING the Backup utility! I've already lost one hard
drive with data, (so now I want to do what I should have been doing) but the
new installation of Windows XP on my drive does not include the Backup util.
It is a windows program that was supplied by Gateway on my computer. (Out of
support period so no help there).

Anyone know where I might find the program?

Thanks

The backup utility is on your Windows XP installation disk. I did a search on
Microsoft for "how to backup" and the directions to install the utility are
on the site. I don't know who told you that you can't do backups to a
cd......I have directions from a Microsoft tech telling me how to do exactly
that...saving folders to a CD. Post back if you want directions....

I have backup program installed from "Valuepac". I use Windows XP Home.
I am interested to know how to properly backup and save folders to a cd so I
have faith that they will be there if ever needed.
I, too, read on a microsoft help page that "unfortunately, you can't save
directly to a cd.
I would like to properly save backup without spending another batch of bucks.
Please reply and let this old man sleep at night!

MarBar,

Just as an alternative to the Windows XP backup utility, you can use Acronis
True Image 9.0. This will make a complet image of the hard drive - saved
either to another hard drive, DVD, CD, on a network, etc... It's a very
powerful program.

I had my system drive die on me. I had the drive replaced and my system
back up *exactly* as I left it within an hour.
