I came from windows 2000 which allows you to do a backup to a floppy (using
ntBackup). There's a setting that lets you backup the Registry Information
(to a location on your HD). Is there an equivalent operation on Windows XP
Pro?

I opened the utility and did not see this option. Any help is appreciated.

System State Data (copy/paste following in Start|Run) :
hh ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\ntbackup.chm::/ntbackup_system_state.htm

If you want to backup registry only then i will recommend Erunt :

I used ERUNT and it save everything. I remember this program as early as
W98 (or 3-11). Anyway, the only thing I'm not sure about is if I need to
recover. It's one thing to recover when your running windows, but what if
your registry is messed up and you cant boot. Can you boot in Win98 (disk)
and still run the files to restore the Registry.

I'm wanting something that can restore the Registry if you can't boot. Sort
of like booting from a Bart CD or something like that. I'm still reading
the stuff on ERunt.

Thanks for you input.

Yes. By copying the saved registry files over the files in :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config

So if you cant boot, Run Recovery Console (or any boot disk) then copy the registry
files (you can copy all the files) from ERDNT directory to C:\Windows\System32\Config
and overwrite the files.

Great! Thanks
