I purchased a Hewlett Packard computer that came with
Windows XP. I have since read about the Backup Utility
that comes on the XP CD. Of course I don't have a CD
because my system came pre-installed. Is it still
possible to get the XP Backup Utility, and if so, how?

It's an HP though, it doesn't come with a restore CD.
You do have the option, however of creating the restore CD with a built-in
utility from HP that creates it from the restore information located on a
hidden partition on the hard drive.

I have to issues with this answer; first how can we be sure that this
is the valid kit for a specific version of a specific OS ?cSomeone, a
year from now, could find this link via goolge and download obsolete
software. backup is mush too important to be running anything but the
corect and latest version.

Second; While I'b sure the owner of onecomputerguy.com is honest and
competant, this is a scenario I've always thought possible to
launching some sort of internet attack; some bad guy sees a question
about something posted that looks like lots and lots of people will be
interested in the answer. He has prepared by already getting backdoor
access to some innocent web server. he renames his trojan to be
"backup_home", to use the example, and uploades it for people to
download.

have you looked on the HP support site ? They owe you a solution,
ntbackup is part of XP.

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to respond to my question. I will
ponder your answers. Perhaps my best bet is indeed to contact HP, since they
continue to send me notices about software for my system.

Hi

I wouldn't take too much notice of the HP 'updates' - they send them out to anyone who buys a printer cartridge!!

If you do contact HP they offer to send you the disk(s) for $10 rather than
you creating them yourself.
