I have been attempting to remove a virus. One of the instructions indicates
to backup the registry and then edit it to remove some malicious code. I
dwnloaded the instructons for loading the Backup utlity from the Windows Home
CD - however, I could not locate one in my materials from Compaq. Then I
read a posted note from "Kaylene aka Taurarian" on 6/21/04 indicating "If
your computer came with only a "system recovery" CD instead of a full Windows
CD, finding Ntbackup.msi is not as easy....Compaq systems with Windows XP
Home Edition pre-installed, for example, have Windows files stored within
Drive Image files on drive D. This is exactly my situation. I looked at the
D drive and Compaq prevents me from seeing anything on that drive.
Q: How do I find and install the Backup utility - or is there another way to
get this program? I tried looking at the downloads on the MS site with no
luck. Can anyone help here?
