Help with Backup
Can anyone help?
I have a computer that is running Windows 2000
Professional and I am having trouble running a program I
want to use for backups. The program I am running is
called Backup Exec Desktop Pro ver 4.5 and windows keeps
telling me that I should use the built in Task Scheduler
and Backup that are part of Windows 2000, which I do not
want to do.
How do I disable or remove the Task Scheduler and Backup
program that are part of Windows 2000?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Fred

Hello Fred,

There is no way to disable task scheduler and ntbackup, but you don't need
to do so to make your Veritas backup solution work. I did some research and
it looks like Backup Exec Desktop Pro uses task scheduler to schedule its
backup jobs. Are you getting the following message when trying to run
schedule tasks?

Event ID: 7901
Source: Schedule
Category: Error
Description: The <job filename> command failed to start due to the
following error: General access denied error.

I saw another customer that was getting these while useing Backup Exec
Desktop Pro to schedule tasks. There is a free hotfix available for this
issue that you can get by calling the support line. Please see the following
article:

329962 Task Scheduler May Create Corrupted Job Files
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329962

Hope this helps!

There is a GP setting which will allow you Disable adding new tasks
to task manager.

That might help.
