Backup to external drive

Because a lot of high definition photos were backed up, the external drive is
full. It is a 10gb Western Digital "My Book Essential Edition." So now I am
getting Windows messages that automatic weekly backups are failing. How do I
go about cleaning up the external drive so that there is space available for
future backups? The future backups will not include photos (or very few).

Is the 10GB a typo and did you mean 100GB?

Just remove the files you no longer want. If you don't want any removed,
copy the images to optical disks (CD or DVD) in order to make space.

I also have many photos in RAW format converted to TIFF files. I keep both
versions of eachg photo and they take up a lot of space. I use a 500GB
external drive as well as backing up the files to another external drive.
If the photos are valuable to you, I suggest that you keep them backed up to
a second drive. I know people who keep their photos on one drive and
duplicate the backups to two other drives.
