since my Zip Drive no longer is useable on this PC I sure need to make
a backup of my PC .. somehow. Is there a 'simple' shareware/freeware out
there ? I sure did love my ZIP RESCUE ..but .. no more :( .. I would
have to use CDs .
many thanks

it is so hard to explain ! I've been using ZIPs for years..got a new PC
and installed my ZIP drive and it changed all my drives ! A to B B to
C C to D D to E and my F (DVD I still haven't been able to get it to
work ! Had to get a techie to get my drives back in the right place !
and he said NOT to try and install ZIP again. AND the model I use 100mg
and I don't see a model # on it anywhere,
I sure would love to get it back up,,and I don't know any way to do
it safely!
and I have to backup my data. Not the daily backup deal .. just a
general backup that I could use to Restore my PC ..
I know this is confusing. So I thought if there's a simply backup
program that is not one of daily back up programs . just one that's
similar to the Zip Rescue by Nortons.. which worked like a charm.
sorry for the long post !

Theres a load of stuff beginning here

http://langa.com/backups/backups(1).htm

I haven't been into it in that much detail; I only want to keep w98
going, and with the installation disk (and a copy), and all the patches
downloaded and burnt I should be OK.

You might also want to check Karen's replicator for your software tool

I've heard it's good

I use tar, cdrecord, mkisofs to do multivolume backups. All of them are
command line, so you customise them as you like...

Toss in some md5sums and you'll sleep well at night.

Why is your Zip drive no longer usable? Lose the install diskette? No
longer have a parallel port? I have a 100mb zip drive if you need the
install disk.

There is a good possibility your drive simply does not have
the correct driver or ASPI layer installed. Check out

driverguide.com

you will need to set up an account which is nothing and take
little time. They have have many odd drivers if you can
come up with any info on what you need. You zip drive is
probably a scsi or IDE unit depending on where it attaches.
If you want to use the zip drive, there should be a way to
run it as if it belongs there. BTW, you basic system and OS
description would help instead of just being "new".
