Hi. I have inherited a network to manage. It was originally NT but has been
upgraded to Windows2003 (2 servers, both DC's, one running exchange 2003
enterprise).

They use Veritas Backup exec 9.1 and currently back up the entite WINNT
directory as well as the system state.

Question: Is this neccessary?
I have searched for an answer regards best practice but must be looking in
the wrong places!!
Regards,
Phil.

Yes, it is necessary.

Thanks 'Pegasus'. How about in a clean windows 2003 environment, the complete
'Windows' directory? I thought you only had to back up Active Directory + the
Shadow Components /Service State /System State?

Phil.

The system state backup is supposed to give you a basic
bootable installation of Windows. This requires a backup
of the whole System32 folder tree.

Thanks for you time.
Phil.
