Backup Restore Using Automated System Recovery

I need a little help with the Microsoft Windows XP Pro backup procedure. I have used the command in Windows to backup my C drive and I put the backup on the H Drive. I do not have a tape drive. I do not know where else to put it. I could put it on my J drive where I have Iomegea 250 Zip installed but that would take too many disk to restore. I have made 6 startup disks for Windows and 6 more with SP1 on them

When I use these startup disks to start up Windows XP Pro, the disks take me to a Windows install program where it eventually takes me to the C drive. Once I get to the C drive where I have to install something, I do not know what to do. The C drive will not let me use the H drive to restore the backup. There is no command there to restore the backup. The only thing there is drive with the DOS prompt and I am suppose to install something but I do not know what. The commands at this DOS prompt are limited and none of them allow me to restore the backup

I can also use the Windows CD where I install it by pressing a key on my keyboard when it starts up so that the Window XP Pro program is installed. After this opens and before it installs windows, I can press F2 and it takes me to the Automated System Recover program where this eventually takes me to the C drive also. I do not know how to install the backup restore at this screen as well. This is a DOS prompt program where the commands to use it are limited

I am speaking about the Atomated System Recovery only – not about System Recovery. I do not have a problem with System Recovery. System Recovery can be used when windows is up and running. I have to open Windows to use it. As far as I know, this can not be used when Windows XP Pro will not start, such as when Windows tells me that Windows will not start because the Config file has been corrupted. That has happened about every month for the last several months

Can you tell me how to get the backup restored when windows does not start. After I get to the C drive, what commands do I enter? What media do I put the backup on? How can I restore the backup when Windows will not start????
