I have never backed up my PC operating on Windows XP Home
Edition (after owning it for 18 months)and am getting
nervous should I catch a virus that would cause my PC to
crash and I end up losing everything on it.

I have referred to Windows XP Magazine and numerous
websites and they all claim I should have an installation
CD and can install a back up facility/operating software
from there.

However, my PC came with Windows XP Home Edition pre-
installed and I cannot obtain a copy of the Operating
Software to install the back up facility.

Similarly, I have no way of reinstalling Windows XP Home
Edition should I need to.

Please can someone let me know how I can

1) Obtain a copy of a Windows XP Home Edition CD

2) Create a back up of my PC so that I can reinstall the
OS in the event of a system crash/virus

Look forward to hearing from you soon

(1)call your computer manufacture(probably H/P,for H/P
is good for that),last time I called for one it cost 15
bucks for shipping and handling.you'll need the serial
#'s.Be by your computer when you call.
(2)As far as back-up,I probably do it the weirdist.I
bought a second hard drive(western digital has a very
good life guard tool for copying)put it in,run the tool
to copy the drive, copy it to the second drive, when it's
finished,I unplug the power for that drive and leave it
in place for the next time. Then I have a copy of my XP on
a spare hard drive with all my files on it ready to use
in case I need it,ready in case of a crash(if it
crashes, set jumper on drive to master switch drive to
master cable,removing bad drive(if it happens),and
running it off the other hard drive, which is brand new
with my copy of XP and all my files,no need to call H/P
or whoever to get a MY copy of XP!Put the 15 bucks into
the spare hard drive, and all the money for the discs
you'll burn, then have to store somewhere. Then if it
crashes you'll have to buy a new drive and copy your
backups to it,and set it up like you had it,lot easier to
have the hard drive in place and ready to use if you need
it.(Don't know bout you but I can't have my box down for
2 or 3 days while I rebuild my files.)Once a month or
after a major change,I plug the drive in,go to the life
guard tool, formate the second drive, and copy everything
from the first drive to it.I have a third drive I don't
use I put in once in a while just to have an extra copy I
keep in the closet.Picked up the extra 120 gig drive for
70 bucks after rebate I use a 40 gig as (back-up)cost 40
bucks after rebate.Cost a lot less in the long run--------
----15or20 for the copy of XP,25 for the disc's you'll
have to burn and save, then destroy when you make another
backup.Spare drive a lot cheaper in the long run.

I like "Bob the cheap'O'" plan it is same as mine. The
Windows Xp has a program. You have to have extra Hard
drive space as you need to save what you want to save on
your HD and copy to CD DVD whatever..3.5 yah right..as
this back of XP will only directly copy to floppy. Here is
