I want to backup my registry but I don't have Backup. I have an OEM set of
disks. I looked in each disk and could not find a backup listing. Could I
just copy the registry to my G:\ drive instead of backing it up?
What is the registry file called and where do I find it?
Thanks, Don

You don't need a backup program to backup the registry. After regedit is
open, you go to file/export. Send a copy wherever you would like.

Your answer seems at odds with that of Wes vogel (quoted from the ERUNT
site, I believe)

[[Note: The "Export registry" function in Regedit is USELESS (!) to make
a complete backup of the registry. Neither does it export the whole
registry (for example, no information from the "SECURITY" hive is
saved), nor can the exported file be used later to replace the current
registry with the old one. Instead, if you re-import the file, it is
merged with the current registry, leaving you with an absolute mess of
old and new registry keys.]]

David;

I believe that the gist of it was that you don't need ntbackup.exe to backup
the registry.

Yes, that was quoted from >>

True or not, I don't know. But I use both NTREGOPT & ERUNT.
ERUNT has saved my butt on at least one occasion. :-)

That was also from another thread. :-)

Hope this helps. Let us know.
