Every time I try to do a backup I get the following error
message.

The backup file name could not be used.

Please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have
suffient access.

I am setup as an administrator and I am trying to save
the file to a Re-Writable CD. I am able to save and
delete to this same CD on the same drive so I know its
not the CD. Any suggestions?

Thanks. Joe

So, how do I do a backup since the files would to large
to fit on a floppy? Do save the backup to the hardrive
and then copy and paste to the CD?

Thanks. PS Just another stupid thing done by Microsoft
when the whole world uses RW CD's.

Joe

Your best bet is to purchase a third party piece of software like Norton
Ghost to do backup's.

Hi Joe if you are not backing up files larger than what will find on a CD-R
check here for a couple of work-arounds
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/saving_files_to_cd.htm

As was correctly pointed out to me by David Candy a few weeks ago - CDs are
not the appropriate choice for doing regular file backups. CD-R/W disks are
highly unreliable especially after doing multiple rewrites to them. This is
one reason why the Backup app doesn't support them. Tape Drives are the best
choice for setting up unattended backups of critical data.

Windows XP Home does not install the Backup app by default but it is
included on the XP Home CD for manual installation. Backup is installed on
XP Professional version. This is because it is thought that systems with XP
Pro installed would be more likely to use the correct media for making
regular backups.
