"Backup of ...." why is it generating this?

It seems to be related to Nero...whenever I save a new version of a Word document it
retains the old version as "Backup of xxxx" in the folder its in. I don't want the
old version only the new version. It seems to have happened right after Nero didn't
like the length of some files (the names are all short) when I was burning a CD.
 
I have no idea why this option is enabled but in MS Word 2002 you can
go to Tools --> Options --> Save and deselect the checkbox "Always
Create Backup Copy". This should make the "Backup of xxxx" go away.
