Hi,

I purchased my computer from a mail order company, with
windows xp home edition already loaded. There doesn't
seem to be any backup utility included, and I can't find
a simple way to back up my hard drive. The only discs
they included with the computer were several recovery
cd's. Could anyone give my any advice on how to backup my
hard drive, or download a backup wizard or function?

Thanks in advance!

Backup utility by default is not installed in XP Home. You
can install it from the XP home edition CD-ROM.

Hopefully the NTBackup is on one of your recovery disks.
Put them in your drive one by one and then if the autoplay
opens a selection screen choose perform additional tasks
or explore this CD and then look for
valueadd\msft\ntbackup and double click the two little
computer icons and NTBackup will be installed in your
start\all programs\accessories\system tools. Keep smiling.

Hi,

If the computer you purchased is an OEM (from Dell,Compaq etc), they might
not ship the Operating System CD. (only restore cds). You can download
ntbackup.msi from here:

Hi Ramesh,

I had the same question - and my computer just came from Dell with no
Windows CD. Can you give me some details of the ntbackup.msi file - size?
where it should be installed?

Should I choose save or open in the download window?

Thanks!

TN
