Backup Media

I've been backing up my 98SE to CDR/CDRW for years.

The first sentence in HELP for Backing up Files and Folders says "Backup
lets you back up data to a file or to a tape."

As I read on, it appears that this is a very misleading statement.
Later, media is defined as "Any fixed or removable objects that store
computer data. Examples include hard disks, floppy disks, tapes, and
compact discs."

So, I can continue to back up to CDR/CDRW, right?

Hi,

In Win98, you used a third party program to backup to CD media, it has no
native burning function. Though it has native burning function, the same
goes for WinXP, the native program does not support direct burning to CD/DVD
media. You can create the backup file, then copy that to CD as an
alternative.

That depends entirely on what backup program you use. If you use the
built-in Windows backup program, no, you can not. It doesn't support backing
up to CDs. However you can do it in two steps: back up to a file on your
hard drive, then burn the file to CDs.

If, on the other hand, you use a third-party backup program, almost any of
them will support backing up to CDs.

No, I used/use Microsoft Backup!!! Admittedly, it was licensed from, I
believe, Seagate.

Then what in the world does Help mean when it says media is defined as

About a 99% Yes. There are many variables, but chances are good
you can continue to use your CDs. The missing 1% is because you
didn't say HOW or what wity, you do the backups now, so nothing
can be certain.
