I have always done full backups from C:\ to D:\, both of
which are 20G drives with more than 75% free space, and
replacing D:\Backup.bkf. My most recent successful backup
was two days ago. Today, with 6 seconds to go, backup
failed on set #3 (System State) with a fixed media full
warning, but D:\ shows 79% free space. Running the
Defragmentation analysis tool on D:\ shows a solid block
of fragmented files that would account for the 21% of
space that is used, and I'm guessing that's because the
files comprise a backup set.
