I backed up on my old computer with Windows XP Pro, this computer sadly is
no more! My new computer has XP Home, but unfortunately it came preinstalled
and I was not supplied with the disks. Does anyone have a work around that
will enable me to restore My Documents to my new computer?

1) Check your new computer out carefully for a utility that allows you to
burn XP setup files to CD. Many OEMs include a tool to do this but don't
always make its presence apparent. If no dice, contact the OEM for a set of
disks. Sometimes there is an extra charge for these but they are so very
useful for restoring the system, it's worthwhile to check for availability.

2) If you are able to locate XP setup files on your hard drive (sometimes
on a hidden partition the OEM created) , on the disk the OEM utility (if
provided) created or on the OEM recovery CD, you might be able to use these
directions to install NTBackup:

3) Another alternative, if the old hard drive is still in working order,
drop it into the new system as a slave drive. Grab the data that you
want/need. (May want to consider keeping that drive installed and using it
as additional storage).

4) Backup My PC will restore *.qic files from the old MS Backup. I'm not
sure it can handle XP's NT Backup *.bkf files or not. May want to check
that angle out.
