I am moving files to another machine. Can someone tell
me how to backup all the mail folders that I have in
outlook express and their contents onto a diskette so
that I can put that on the new machine??
Thank you!

Jacki,

Here's an easy way. In OE, click tools - options - maintenance - store
folder. That will show you where they are. Now if you click on change, you
can move your files to a convenient location of your choosing.

No, it is an application that you will find in Win2000, Win98,
WinMe etc.
Why not stop being so anal and just tell them the answer, you have
used two posts to achieve nothing, aside from proving you have the
attitude of an ass. good effort!

in terms of the answer perform a search for *.dbx files they will be
in documents and setting\application data or something like that, bear
in mind it mightl be hidden so you might have to unhide system files
and folders, simply copy all of these files to cd/disk then tell your
new machine to import for an outlook express store directory and point
it to the copied files. Make sure they import fine before deleting the
old files if possible, i had a similar situation where the file
corrupted in copying, lost all my mails, how frustated i was.

The reason is quite simple: It is best for the OP to get advice from
the experts in such matters, and they tend to hang out here:

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x

I am not an expert in Outlook Express, and nor are you. Your advice
is obviously well meant but can be misleading - you keep speaking
about "tell your machine to import", yet we both know you do not
use the Import function when pointing OE to a new newsgroup
information store.

And please - let's cut out the vernacular. It devalues the rest of your
post.

Then say that, dont just say nothing to do with 2000 go elsewhere,

I am not an expert in Outlook Express,

obviously as shown by your following statement
and nor are you.

and where have you gained this assumption from, was it the bit where i
told the other person how to do what they wanted?

do we? are you sure?

Why dont you read this
http://www.novatone.net/mag/OEMSGCopy.htm

Or how about this (though my method removes the need to backup)
http://supportdesk1.iit.edu/emailfaq/expressBackup/

Or maybe here (ignore the outlook bit)
http://www.sitedeveloper.ws/tutorials/outlook.htm

Well what do you know? these three sites pretty much outline what i
said in reply to the initial question. all be it they had screen shots
and the like but the principle is the same.

Why do you not bother to actually do any research before saying that
other people are wrong?
