backup file locking up program

We got a new computer. I exported the personal folder from the old one into
a backup file and placed it on the desktop of the new computer. I then
imported it into outlook. Once it was imported, the program is not
responding to keyboard or mouse requests. It takes approximately 30 seconds
to recognize strokes, then it will give message "not responding". when I've
sent in the error report, microsoft comes back with an update message to
install service pack 2 (or 3) I don't remember, however, the updates are
already installed. I hope someone has ran across this and has an answer.
I've already uninstalled, reinstalled the program twice and eventually
reformatted the computer to have outlook function correctly again.

It's possibly due to the Import/Export process, something that should never
be done with a Personal Folders file as is usually causes Outlook profile
corruption, plus you lose the following information:

1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Try copying the old .PST file to the new machine and reusing it. You might
also consider creating a new profile on the new machine.
