"encountered file inconsistency" trying to restore
selected folders containing jpg

How to recover original file(s) using this "basic"
service without purchasing another product to fix the
first one I purchased, Windows XP "Pro"?

What media are you restoring from? If tape, did you retension it? How many times has it been used and was it stored to keep away from extremes in temperature? Was it at the same temperature as the backup drive? If CD-R[W], is it scratched? If so, did you try using a kit to repolish it? Can you copy the entire CD okay to the hard drive? If you backed up to a file, was it on a mapped or networked drive? When you did the backup, did you include the option to verify the backup? Otherwise, you have no idea that what got put on the backup actually matches what you have on your hard drive or that the backup media is even readable.
