I'm trying to use the backup utility within Windows 2000
to backup one directory to a CD-RW. I'm a member of both
the backup and administrators group, yet I keep getting
the following message: Y is not a valid drive, or you do
not have access. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanx Don, but I was thinking that I would like to
automate the process, thus my trying to use the backup
utility with the scheduling feature. In the past, I've
tried a test run writing to a floppy and it works fine,
I'm just confused as to why it's squaking about a CD-RW
storage drive.

I believe that online help indicates that you should be
able to backup "to" a removable drive, but it's
vague...they may mean tape which I do not have. If this
won't work, can you recommend any third party backup
products that will do the trick?

Thanx for your earlier reply, I appreciate it!
