Backup doesn't seem to work at all

I created two scheduled backup jobs to run at specific times, but I can't
see the jobs saved anywhere and when the time came nothing happened.

I had no success with Backup in Windows 2000 and was hoping it might be
better in XP, but I must be doing something wrong, but having been through
the wizard and checked everything using the Advanced view, I'm at a loss to
see what I'm doing wrong.

Shouldn't I be able to see the jobs listed somewhere in the program and be
able to edit them and make changes?

Backup products I've used before save the details of the backup (files &
locations, type of backup, compression, verification and where to back up)
as a backup job and any scheduling of this job separately, but Windows
Backup doesn't seem to do this. This appear to be a very inflexible
approach. Am I missing something?

The Backup wizard should let you select the destination, but apparently not
compression or verification. It seems oriented towards tape drives and
floppies.

I've had good results with Backup Plus from Avantrix.

The jobs end up in your "Scheduled Tasks" folder. Go to Control
Panel and double click Scheduled Tasks. You should find icons
representing the backup jobs you scheduled. Select Details view
from the toolbar to see more information about each job. Also,
when you start Backup uncheck "Always start in Wizard Mode".
Hit the Cancel button. Restart Backup and you should see the
Backup Utility. Click on the "Schedule Jobs" tab to see if
they're are listed on the calendar.

In Scheduled Tasks, click on Advanced on the toolbar. Select
"View log" from the menu. Search for entries in the log for
your backup jobs. Anything other than an exit code of (0) may
provide a clue as to exactly why the jobs aren't running
correctly.

Keep in mind that in order to schedule backup jobs, or for that
matter any scheduled task, you need to set it up to run under
an account with a non-blank password. In other words, if you
want to use the scheduling feature of ntbackup, you'll have to
either add a password to your account or create a new password
protected account that the jobs can run under.

Thanks Nepatsfan.

It's the password thing that got me. Didn't get any message to suggest that
the backup would simply vanish without a password. This explains why there
was nothing in Scheduled tasks or on the backup calendar.

It's a dog.

I'll use Acronis TrueImage when I get it installed.

I am very frustrated, I bought a 20 pack of writeable CD's and can't get
this XP home edition to back up . Now what do I do? I have a busy home
business and can't invest this kinda time at the end of the month. I was
told this was a piece of cake.
 
If you mean the default backup app I believe it only backs up to hd, you
then have to copy to media.
Buy a specific backup app.
PS Home or any other bus.? you should backup daily, preferably to two
different locations
