I have attempted to back up my hard drive on an external hard drive. I have
been performing a full back up. It works fine except at the end it says I
will not be able to restore my hard drive because I have no floppy drive for
an "ACF" file. I was going to use a USB thumb drive but it was not connected
when the "ACF" file warning came up. Is the "ACF" file necessary for
restoring a damaged hard drive ? Is there a work around ? It takes about an
hour on USB 2.0. Thanks.

You buy a USB floppy drive. When ntbackup says floppy, it means floppy and
only floppy.
In addition, the full restore expects to use an XP installation CD.
You might be able to restore with BartPE; I don't know because I use Acronis
True Image.
