Fellas,
I have a Sony GY-8240 drive (UW) which uses DTF-2 media (200GB/500GB),
installed onto a Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
I need to find an app that will not only support this drive, but that
also has the feature of being able to display, approximately, the
amount of space remaining on a given tape.
I've been hashing over a few ideas on how to code this myself, but I
was hoping at not having to re-invent the wheel.
The closest I've come so far is BakBone's NetVault, but I really don't
like this application, and their support has been less than desirable.
To be fair to Bakbone, I think this app would be ok if it was used in
*Nix, it just doesn't feel right on a MS box to me.
The application I'm looking for needs only the simpliest of backup
features, as it's only backing up local files (alot of LARGE local
files).. but having the ability to see how much space is left on the
tape would be a big plus.
I've tried
Backup Exec (no GY-8240 support at all)
UltraBak (drives it ok, but no tape remaining option)
NetVault (well, this one pretty much does it all, but is actually TOO
complicated for what we need to do)
Downloading Brightstor ARCServe now.
