Backup and Recovery of Win2k Domain, DNS, DHCP Server

Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 DC. It's also a file server, print server, Active
Directory, DNS, and DHCP server; your typical small business model.

What's the best backup scenario and where can I go to get more information
on best practices of
backup and recovery for Windows 2000? File backup is simple, but what about
all the system and network configuration stuff: Registry, Active Directory,
DNS, DHCP, (anything vital I've missed) etc.

I'm backing up to 24GB tape if you need to know.

In Win2k Server, a System State backup includes:

Registry
COM+ Class Registration database
Boot files , including the system files
Certificate Services database
Active Directory directory service
SYSVOL directory
Cluster service information
IIS Metadirectory
System files that are under Windows File Protection

A system state backup typically takes about 300 MB, so backing up to a hard
drive is easy and fast. You can automate this process with an ntbackup
script. See:
