Hi All

I've got the following problem:
A1 cell is formatted as percentage with 2 decimals.
When I want to edit the contents, the result appears to depend o
whether you choose BackSpace or Del button, or overwrite.

I want to display 5.00%
1). i overwrite it and get the right result.
2). i press Del and then type 5 - right result again.
3). i press BackSpace and type 5 - *and get 500.00%!!!!!!!*

Could there be a bug or something? I've cracked my head with thi
stuff.

HELP!!!
The users will be not too proficient in Excel, they will use the wa
appealing to them, even if I write the instruction on their forehead
  :(

Thank you

I don't know the answer really but I notice one difference between the two
methods is that when I backspace I have *Enter* in the status bar indicating
that I am in edit mode but when I delete the contents of the cell with the
Del key it remains saying *Ready*

This may be totally wrong - then no doubt someone will correct me - but if
you format a cell as percentage with 2 decimal places, enter 5 as before you
get 5%, no surprises so far. Now re-select the cell and enter a six again.
The *.oo* will disappear leaving *6%* and *Enter* will be in the Status bar
indicating edit mode. If you then press the Del key the *%* will disappear
leaving just the *6* No further amounts of pressing the Del key will remove
the *6* but if you now press Enter you will get *600.00%* in the cell.

I assume therefore that pressing the Backspace removes the *%* from the
entry so that when a 6, (or any whole number), is entered, XL takes it as a
whole six ie 600%

I don't know about you, but I am not really any further forward but at least
it was interesting.

Regards

Sandy

If you enter .5 they both produce 50%. Edit mode (including
backspace) always assumes decimal entry.
Direct entry into the cell (you don't need to Del, you just type
over the old value) uses the setting on the edit tab of the
options dialog box. If you uncheck the "Enable Automatic
Percent Entry", both methods will come out as 500%.
I don't think you can make both come out as 5%.

Hi!

Go further and Backspace on the 500.00% then enter and you'll ge
50000.00% etc ad nauseam.

I don't know the definition of a bug. But it is certainly
pitfall/problem/danger.
