I have Windows XP and Microsoft Office Word 2003. The
backspace key does not work in microsoft word only. It
works in Notepad and other microsoft programs.

When I select a word or a paragraph and then press the
backspace key, it brings the curser to the front of the
word or paragraph but does not delete it.

I did a search in help and printed out a list of the
shortcut keys. Both command names "Delete All comments in
Doc" and "Delete All Comments Shown" were blank under the
headings "modifiers" and "key", but under the "Menu"
heading it read "reject". I don't know whether this has
anything to do with it or not.

Please help - as the technician over the phone could not
help me.

Try turning off the 2 WordPerfect options in Tools > Options > General

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Typing replaces
selection." Backspacing is considered "typing."

Hi Mike,

I checked and they were already turned off. Any thing
else that you could suggest?

Another person got it. For your information:
