I know quite a few of us rant on about always backing stuff up, but I'm just wondering how many people here do?

I'm doing an uber-backup today! Everything from all my PCs onto DVD :)

I use the XP backup wizard (docs and settings only) about once a month.

and save onto my laptop and a DVD

I do no backing up WHAT SO EVER !!! lol :)

Loose it u loose it lol jokes :p

I do SOMETIMES ... on music that's bout it ... don't really mind if it's school work !!! lol

You really should Belloni, at least every so often ;)

Ya i kna i should Ian lol :)

But my pc's don't crash !!! haha :P

I'll take da risk coz i don't really mind lol

Last backup i made was September 2004 onto DVD...

Terrible i know... but i like to have faith in my machine... Going strong for a year and 5 months now, nothing been changed really in it all that time, touch wood it will last longer.

better to be safe than sorry

mind u my last back up was coupla months ago!

im looking to get an xbox and stick in a 400gb harddrive!
then my backups will be complete!

I back up about every 3 months to a dual layer dvd disk, all my important stuff, goodies and documents, and i also have copies of all my goodies on my mini external hard drive so most things are duplicated and safe...:D

I'm cuurently backing up weekly to a spare HDD, and every few months a full backup to DVD's. Although trying to fit 50Gb onto DVD's is a little tedious (I must get a dual layer burner!).

What is the going rate now in your area for the dual layer media, last I checked it was over $10 per piece, I am sure prices by now may have come down.

I have a spare 80Gb hard disk that I put into an USB IcyBox and I use that to keep stuff ready to backup onto DVD/CD. I like to try and ensure that all the files I want to keep (docs, photos, music, essential utils, game patches and game save folders etc) are not on my system disk so if anything goes badly wrong it only takes an hour or so to completely reformat, re-install XP, and all my software without having to worry about backing up.

I also keep the latest drivers for all my hardware on CD and on a USB pen drive.;)

I really should back up once a week or so but if im honest, i just can't be arsed. No one backs up their computer 52 times a year unless there is vitally important stuff on it.

Dont get a 7200rpm drive for an Xbox - they make it overheat. Unless you can mod it up with some new cooling or something...

And you can only go up to 120Gb...

As standard, the Xbox comes with an 8 or 10 GB hard drive. That's not a lot of space by today's standards, which is why one of the first demands is for a larger drive.

Up to 120 GB is possible without any great effort; an up-to-date BIOS with 48 bit LBA extension is needed to operate larger drives. The procedure here is somewhat complicated. The new hard drive can be partitioned and run using a bootable EvoX CD (also available via P2P).

A word of warning, however, if you are thinking of investing in a larger and, in particular, a faster drive: While the drives built in at the factory spin at 5,400 rpm max, faster models now reach 7,200 and consequently develop considerably more heat. This is risky as the hard-drive receives virtually no ventilation and the hard drive itself is surrounded only by plastic - a material well known as a bad heat conductor.

Hope this helps... Chris

I dont back up to be honest and i had my 80gb seagate on my old computer it was gonna have iminate failer lol and it kept saying this every time i started windows hahha dont know why it seemed to work fine just had alot of disk errors on it... so i just put it away in a box thats under my computer to make it taller :D

I use Norton Ghost 9.0 onto a seperate drive, It works well and you can browse the back up image., to restore files individually. Or just the whole drive.

heya people i was just wondering what is the best way to back up all my music?

i use i tunes and have over 1000 songs on it....

what should i do to back it all up?

my music is my priority but i may want to backup all my documents... any suggestions :)

A simple drag and drop onto a DVD or CD is probably the best method in this case :) Do back up your documents though ;)

cheers Ian... that will be an awful lot of cd's though! How many songs can you fit onto a dvd ???

would it be worth buying one of those usb memory sticks ?

also! how easy it to swap data from one hardrive to another? as when i get my new computer i will want to use my current data on the new comp....

sorry if im going off subject :)
