I want to have a duplicate copy of my XP operating system CD, to work from, while I store my original in a safe location. First, is this legal, and if so, can I simply "copy" it, without "built-in" errors?

You shouldn't have a problem coping it for a just incase. As long as you
have the CD Key you will be fine. I wou;dn't think you would have any errors
either.

If you wish to "duplicate" your Windows XP CD for backup purposes, you are
within your legal rights to do so without argument from any side. Do so.
But Might I suggest you do more than DUPLICATE your Windows XP CD? Make it
better:

The Windows XP CD has no "built-in errors". That is, it is not
copy-protected.
If you copy your CD (you have that right under the EULA) and find errors on
it, make another copy, because the errors were not on the original CD.

Shenan,
EXCELlent link provided there. I'm still looking
for the part where it says "If you already have XP
with SP1, skip to", but I'll figure it out.
Looking forward to trying it out - thanks!
