Can somebody please help me. I am struggling to backup my files to CD using the built in Backup program thingy in windows. It's very annoying. please help. Cheers and thanks.

Another point!

NTBackup cannot write directly to CD. However, you can place backup files in the XP CD-RW write subsystem's spooler or STAGING AREA, which effectively writes the data directly to CD-RW. Another point to note: NTBackup does not span multiple disks. Make sure the size of your backup doesn't exceed the capacity of your storage media.

[More Information]
How can I use Windows XP's NTBackup to back up files to CD-RW?:

Two points: It will not work at all with only XP's inbuilt CD burning,
which does not work in a way that supports use of one as output media
for any program. (see more at http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm). You
would need one of the 'packet writing' packages, and even then the
NTBackup will not support 'spanning' a backup over multiple CDs. Best
to get an independent backup program that includes its own writing to
CDs as part of it - eg BackUpMyPC from www.stompinc.com

I use BackUpMyPC for files on an old box I use as a file/print server. It is
handy to have it run a job in the middle of the night to backup all the new
or changed files. If you aren't used to backup programs it isn't real
obvious exactly what is going on at first glance - things like catlogs,
device view, etc.

BackUpMyPC certainly allows you to backup your C drive but I prefer using a
program like Drive Image or Symantec Ghost. Real fast and also has some
tools for adjusting partitions etc. (Symantec has now bought out
PowerQuest). I can make a copy of my C drive in just a few minutes since it
copies at about 1GB/min which makes it handy for freezing a copy of a system
before you fool around with it and I consider it to be better than relying
on XP's System Restore.

Every now and then I burn a copy of the Drive Image backup to CD for
off-line storage

You can also use Drive Image or Ghost to backup your data files but these
programs work on a disk or logical disk unit not individual files. This
isn't a real problem but you will be backing up a lot of files that are
already backed up. For data files, I make a Drive Image backup say once a
month and then let BackUpMyPC make incremental backups each day. This way if
I have to restore data from a crash I don't have to restore a large number
of incremental backups. Of course, you can always just use your CD creating
software to write selected files to CD. Drive Image and Ghost come with a
program that allow you to browse your image and restore selected files so
you don't have to restore the whole disk. To be fair to BackUpMyPC I should
mention that I was very familiar with Drive Image so that may be part of the
reason I prefer it for C drive backups - it was the devil I knew.

The best backup solution depends on exactly what you want to backup and how
you like to work.

I also have a problem with Backing up. I cannot seem to get the right path for the back up process on a new CD, although I was able to back up with a CD that had data on it!
