hi folks,

i'm using an older win2k server box as an audio workstation; in setting it
up, i've nuke a whole lot of unnecessry SERVICES, which is an arduous
time-consuming task.

in case i must re-insatll win2k (server), is there any branch of the
registry I can export which would "save" my tweaked SERVICES settings, so i
could re-import after an OS re-install/

thanks for any pointers..

You could back up the whole System registry file. Alternatively you could
back up this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services. In
either case you will face th problem of merging the backed up data with the
new data. A far safer method would be to disable the unwanted services than
to "nuke" them. The effect is the same.

thanks Peg. "nuking" the services - by that I meant "disabling" or changing
to manual. it's a couple of hours work, because i have to look up each one
and decide if it's needed or not.

backing up the reg. branch as you indicated sounds like a good plan.
