Earlier versions of windows had "scanreg.exe /backup" that could be used to
backup a copy of the registry. Is there an equivalent program in XP.

I wan to be able to run a backup of the registry files
as a precursor to a software installation wihout having to
get the end user to do any work. ie run it as a background process
before the actual installation proceeds

I also want to avoid using the GUI at all, as in having to
create a restore point.

Any help appreciated

Hi!
You can use the freeware ERUNT
(http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt). It has "command line
switches for automated registry backup and restoration".

Thank you for reply.
I have downloaded the zip file and I will
have a play with it soon.
