backing up outlook

I backed up outlook ( at least I thought I did ) and
wanted to bring my contacts into a new computer...I have
two files...one called archive and another called
outlook...they didn't have any associations with then or
file extentions like .pst but I chose outlook as the
program to associate with them....this didn't seem to
work....any thoughts?
 
You have to open .PST files from within Outlook -- you can't open them from
Windows. In Outlook, go to File | Open | Outlook Data File (or File | Open
| Personal Folders File if you're using an older Outlook version...it always
helps if you give us these details) and then browse to your outlook.pst
file. It will open in your Folder List.
