Just discovered that XP doesn't have "back-up" facility, like W98 used to
have.
Anyone know of a (free) back-up utility - I want to back up to CD.
Tried Fileback4.0 - it don't work, and I had the very devil of a job to get
rid of it !
Appreciate yr help in advance - Len

Yes it does.

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on
XP Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the
CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by
doubleclicking the file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

Thanks Ken !!

Unfortunately Windows backup program won't back up to CD.

I've been using Stomp's "BackUp MyPC" for some time with good results. I
believe a 30 day trial is available for download.

Thanks, Hillbilly ! Already discovered NTbackup won't back-up to CD. There's
a facility in Nero too, but with severe restrictions on usage. I've backed
up C:\ to D:\partition, using NTbackup - am still exploring its
functionality.
Sincerely, Len

Supplementary - Ken, NTBackup does NOT back up to CD. I'm still exploring
actual functionality, I think I can sort out a way to do it, via two-step
process (back up to HD, then copy to CD)

Yes, I know. I wasn't recommending it, just pointing out that it
*does* exist. If you compare it with the other backup software
products on the market, it's inferior to almost all of them, for
several reasons.

Yes, that's a choice you can make.

There are many approaches to backup. My personal backup scheme
uses two identical removable hard drives, which fit into a sleeve
installed in the computer. I alternate between the two, and use
Drive Image to make a complete copy of the primary drive.
